CHAMPIONS SEOUL (OPENING)
VALORANT Champions 2024, the fourth edition of the tournament, was held in Seoul, South Korea, from August 1–24, 2024. As the pinnacle event of the Valorant competitive calendar, it attracted record-breaking global attention, with over 2.4 million peak concurrent viewers, making it one of the most-watched Valorant tournaments to date.
Riot approached us with the idea of leaning into the theme of time — reflecting not just on the tournament’s legacy, but on the broader, cyclical nature of competition itself. Inspired by this, we decided to expand the scope beyond the event, exploring the metaphysical concept of time as a circle — how beginnings and endings often mirror each other.
We centered the film on the personal journey of this year's standout hero, Munchkin. After conducting pre-interviews months ahead of the event, we were captivated by his story — his early love of gaming, the crucial role his brother played in encouraging him, and the perseverance that carried him through his career. To bring this to life, we cast a young actor to portray a young Munchkin and wove his story into a broader tapestry. The film also touched on other key narratives: Boaster, facing the twilight of his career, and F0rsaken from PRX, seeking redemption after a tumultuous past. Together, these stories created a heartfelt meditation on time, growth, and legacy within the world of Valorant.
